The Defiance County Health Department is available to serve the community on various levels. The Nursing Department is ready to serve through immunization clinics and various screenings.  Public health nurses also provide a wealth of information on health related topics. The Vital Statistics staff provides the public with birth and death certificates. From well and sewer permits to food licensure and questions regarding environmental concerns, the Environmental Health staff assists the public in many ways. Women, Infants, and Children, also known as WIC, is a government program that provides food assistance and nutrition education to qualifying women and children in Defiance County.  The Health Planning and Promotion Department provides the public with health related presentations and promoting prevention education, and strives to promote health through many fun, and creative programs. The Defiance County Health Department continually strives to improve, promote, and protect the health of Defiance County residents.

Privacy Statement:  A federal law, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (known as HIPAA) was passed by Congress to further increase the information safeguards and security of patient health care information.  The Privacy Rule establishes standards for protecting the privacy of individually identifiable health information.  The Rule confers certain rights on individuals, including rights to access and amend their health information and to obtain a record of when and why their PHI has been shared with others for certain purposes. The Privacy Rule establishes conditions under which covered entities can provide researchers access to and use of PHI when necessary to conduct research.

Authorization may be required to access protected health information from the Defiance County Health Department.
