houseOccasionally a loan institution will require a septic and water system inspection before loan approval. The Defiance County Health Department can provide this service.

The septic inspection includes a record search for a permit, (records are available back to the 1960's) and a site inspection. If there is no documentation available showing that the tank was pumped in the last 5 years, pumping needs to done prior to inspection, or if possible, done at the time of inspection. The homeowner, buyer, or realtor will need to make arrangements.  Download a list of licensed  Septic Tank Pumpers. If the septic system is not operational or is creating a nuisance, it may need to be brought up to current code.

The water inspection also consists of a record search.  State water rules became effective in 1980, so records are available from 1980 to the present time. A water sample will be taken for bacteria only. At an additional fee, other water tests are available. The water system will be evaluated to determine if it is in compliance.

A report noting any problems will be prepared for the requester.
